Tooth removal, tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is one of the most common oral surgery procedures. As far as possible our dentists aim to retain all teeth for as long as possible and only remove teeth when necessary. This is done under local anaesthetic in the most gentle way possible.

What to do after tooth extraction?
- Keep the gauze sheet inserted by the doctor in place for at least 30 minutes after the tooth extraction

- If possible, do not eat while the anaesthetic lasts (you may bite your lip or tongue or you may choke)

- Follow a dairy-free diet for at least 7 days after tooth extraction (because bacteria in milk can cause severe inflammation)

- Do not pick, flush or suck on the tooth extraction wound or area and do not use a straw (blood clots at the tooth extraction site play an important role in wound healing if the clot is removed and a cavity forms)

- Pay close attention to oral hygiene after tooth extraction, brush your teeth the same day

- The wound may leak, minor bleeding may occur, but if it becomes more severe, see your dentist immediately!

- Do not smoke! Do not drink alcohol!

- Avoid physical exertion, sauna, steam, beauty salon, massage, solarium, spa for a few days.
