Inlay
Similar in size to a larger dental filling but made of a much more resistant material and has a much longer life expectancy.

Onlay
Larger in size than a dental filling, it covers the chewing surface of the tooth, forming a kind of transition between the crown and the filling.

What is inlay?
An inlay is essentially a bonded filling, a solid porcelain filling that is custom made in the laboratory by our dental technician from an imprint and then bonded in place. Inlays are used when the entire chewing surface does not need to be covered. Afterwards it is glued in place.

What is onlay?
An onlay, also known as a partial crown, is a special type of dental prosthesis that is applied when the tooth is damaged to the extent that it cannot be replaced with an inlay. This is the case when not only a part of the chewing surface but also the entire chewing surface and the corner of the tooth is damaged.
